The Arc of the Experience

Your Experience, Day by Day

Before
Arrival

Preparation begins at home

Your journey begins before you ever step into darkness. You'll receive educational materials, preparation guidance, and support resources designed to help you arrive feeling informed, grounded, and ready.

Our team also conducts a screening and intake process to ensure the experience is a good fit and that appropriate support is available throughout your journey.

Day 1
Arrival & Orientation

Settling in, in the light

You arrive at the ranch and settle into your private space. The first day is intentionally spent in the light — allowing you to meet the team, acclimate to the environment, receive your orientation, and ask any remaining questions before entering darkness.

Days 2–4
In the Darkness

The outside world fades away

Without screens, artificial light, schedules, notifications, or external distractions, many participants notice a profound shift in awareness. Some experience deep rest. Some encounter powerful insights. Some simply discover what it feels like to slow down. There is no "right" experience.

The darkness meets each person differently. Throughout your stay, our team remains available to support your safety and wellbeing while honoring the solitude that makes the experience transformative.

Day 5
Re-Emergence

Returning to light

Emerging from darkness is often one of the most powerful parts of the experience. Participants gradually return to light in a carefully guided process that allows the nervous system and senses to re-acclimate. Many describe this day as seeing the world with fresh eyes.

  • Guided transition into light
  • Reflection practices
  • Gentle sensory reintroduction
  • Hike, journal, draw
  • Rest and integration time
Day 6
Integration & Departure

Carrying it forward

Transformation doesn't happen in darkness alone — it happens through integration. The final day is dedicated to helping you make sense of your experience and identify how to carry insights forward into daily life.

  • Group reflection
  • Integration exercises
  • Personalized next steps
  • Continued support resources
  • Departure by 1:00 PM

Carson Healing Ranch

The Environment

Dark Caves takes place in a peaceful ranch setting about an hour outside of Omaha, NE, intentionally designed to support rest, reflection, and nervous system regulation. Every aspect of the environment is curated to minimize distractions and maximize safety, comfort, and presence.

The Caves

Step into a thoughtfully crafted, multi-chambered space where warmth, structure, and stillness meet — natural textures of wood and stone with intentional design, offering private rest. Elevated sleeping nooks provide a sense of safety and retreat, while open areas invite grounding, reflection, and connection. Each corner feels purposeful, supporting deep inward journeys, restoration, and a gentle return to self within a contained, earthy embrace.

The Sanctuary

Nestled on the ranch, The Sanctuary is a stunning architectural landmark and the largest yurt in North America — offering space to pause, reconnect, and make sense of what emerged during the experience.

The Ranch

An hour outside of Omaha, the ranch surrounds the retreat with quiet, open land — the setting that makes the stillness inside the caves possible.
