Four nights. Total darkness. Expert guidance. Deep restoration.
Dark Caves is a science-informed, trauma-aware darkness retreat designed to help you disconnect from external stimulation and reconnect with yourself.
Supported by Somatic Experiencing practitioners, neurofeedback technology, intentional preparation, and thoughtful integration, this experience creates a rare opportunity to slow down, reset your nervous system, and explore what emerges when the noise falls away.
Dark Caves combines ancient darkness practices with modern neuroscience, biometric research, and evidence-based approaches to nervous system regulation and human optimization. Every aspect of the experience is intentionally designed to support meaningful transformation.
Unlike many darkness retreats, participants are supported by trained Somatic Experiencing practitioners and a carefully designed safety framework. From preparation to integration, every step is built to help participants feel supported, grounded, and empowered throughout the journey.
The experience doesn't end when the lights come back on. Guided integration, neurofeedback support, reflection practices, and post-retreat resources help participants translate insights into meaningful changes that continue long after they return home.
Your nervous system will thank you

Your journey begins before you ever step into darkness.
You'll receive educational materials, preparation guidance, and support resources designed to help you arrive feeling informed, grounded, and ready.
Our team also conducts a screening and intake process to ensure the experience is a good fit and that appropriate support is available throughout your journey.

You arrive at the ranch and settle into your private space.
The first day is intentionally spent in the light.
This allows you to meet the team, acclimate to the environment, receive your orientation, and ask any remaining questions before entering darkness.

Once darkness begins, the outside world fades away. Without screens, artificial light, schedules, notifications, or external distractions, many participants notice a profound shift in awareness.
Some experience deep rest.
Some encounter powerful insights.
Some simply discover what it feels like to slow down.
There is no "right" experience.
The darkness meets each person differently. Throughout your stay, our team remains available to support your safety and wellbeing while honoring the solitude that makes the experience transformative.

Emerging from darkness is often one of the most powerful parts of the experience. Participants gradually return to light in a carefully guided process that allows the nervous system and senses to re-acclimate. Many describe this day as seeing the world with fresh eyes.

Transformation doesn't happen in darkness alone.
It happens through integration.
The final day is dedicated to helping you make sense of your experience and identify how to carry insights forward into daily life.

Dark Caves takes place in a peaceful ranch setting about an hour outside of Omaha, NE, intentionally designed to support rest, reflection, and nervous system regulation.
Every aspect of the environment is curated to minimize distractions and maximize safety, comfort, and presence.

Nestled on the ranch, The Sanctuary is a stunning architectural landmark and the largest yurt in North America.
For many participants, The Sanctuary becomes a meaningful part of the journey—offering space to pause, reconnect, and make sense of what emerged during their experience.
